A custom domain is an important asset for any brand. For advertisers looking to promote their brand, increase discoverability, enhance credibility, and lay claim to permanent web real estate, owning a custom domain is imperative. And for creators who use ToneDen’s smart links, it’s now easy to configure subdomains with our free custom domain routing solution.

To get started, though, you need a custom domain. While there’s no shortage of cheap domain registrars, not all registrars are created equal. We’ve sorted through the options to give you our recommendations for cheap domain registrars. When you’re ready to buy your brand’s dream home, we’ve got you covered. In our opinion, these are the best, most secure custom domain registrars around. (Obviously, they’re all ICANN-accredited.)

1. Namecheap

Pricing: The prices for Namecheap vary, with a .com starting at $8.88. There are always great deals, like $7.98 (67% off) a .co.

Usability: Easy! From checkout to domain management panel, Namecheap keeps it clean and simple. Plus, if you're buying the domain to host with ToneDen smart links, they'll let you set up a CNAME on the root of the domain, which means you don't have to pick a subdomain.

Extras: Email forward, website hosting, and VPN services. Plus, we love the 24/7 live chat support. With .com domain, Namecheap includes free WhoisGuard privacy protection. This perk keeps your contact information private.

2. Domain.com

Pricing: Domain.com keeps it cheap, too. A .com starts at $9.99; a .net, at $12.99.

Usability: A handy quick search tool lets conduct your domain-name research, with the option to filter for premium domains. Checkout is simple enough, but watch out for the registrar’s many upsells.

Extras: Website hosting services (not the best), live chat, bulk registration, and more. Domain.com is one of the top domain registrars for a reason!

3. Google Domains

Pricing: Domains start at $9/year. Choose from more than 300 domain endings. From .com to .photography to .cafe.

Usability: Google Domains makes it easy to connect to other Google services, like G-suite, Google Search Console, and more. Sleek interface and fast support.

Extras: Email forwarding, privacy protection, one-click DNSSEC, Google 2-Step Verification, and more included.

4. iwantmyname

Pricing: Domains start at $15/year. Choose your new favorite international, generic, or slightly funky top-level domain. Fun fact: this is where we got ToneDen's domain. 😉

Usability: Sleek interface and fast support.

Extras: There's a marketplace of integrations where they basically set up everything for you automatically so that your domain will work with a particular service. Also, free privacy is offered for most domains. It is not enabled automatically, however, so you will need to set that up after purchase.

5. Hover

Pricing: A .com starts at $12.99; a .org is $13.99.

Usability: Domains and email accounts: Hover keeps it simple. They also keep the upsells to a minimum and accept pretty much any payment method.

Extras: Shopify, tumblr, and other integrations make Hover a good jumping off point. That said, domains and emails are their bread and butter.

6. SiteGround

Pricing: $15.99 for a .com. SiteGround is a web hosting company first and foremost.

Usability: “Crafted for easy management,” as the slogan goes, SiteGround is easy to navigate. Purchasing a domain on SiteGround is simple, too.

Extras: Email hosting, cloud hosting, WordPress hosting—there’s a whole host of hosting extras with SiteGround.

7. OVH

Pricing: Think pounds. .com’s start at 5.99

Usability: The top domain registrar in Europe, everything is straightforward if you’re in one country. Multinational customers may encounter small hiccups.

Extras: Web hosting, cloud computing, and numerous other business applications.

8. GoDaddy

Pricing: A .com for $12.99 (the first year) is definitely competitive.

Usability: 18 million customers bought domain names from GoDaddy. They’re one of the original domain registrars, and their reliability is still impressive. That said, checkout is sort of upsell city.

Extras: One-click WordPress installation is no joke. You can also buy domain bundles. And, if your dream domain is taken, in some instances you can bid on it.
